An Update On Nutrifuel

Here at Nutrifuel, we strongly believe in the importance of establishing healthy eating habits for the long-term health of our communities. One of the ways we have been working towards this goal is by partnering with the Bergen County Farmers Markets to distribute excess food to food pantries. With billions of pounds of food going to waste each year, we thought it would be a great idea to repurpose fresh fruits and vegetables that would otherwise go to waste.

Starting with the Ridgewood Farmers Market, Nutrifuel has successfully distributed over 500 pounds of fresh vegetables and fruits such as apples, potatoes, zucchini, carrots, etc to local food pantries like the Ridgewood Social Services Association, Fair Lawn Health Department, the Hackensack Center for Food Action and other food pantries in Bergen County, NJ.

In terms of personal care items and baby products, Nutrifuel put in an order for diapers, baby wipes, and baby formula for the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for children. These items were dropped off at various collections sights such as the Women’s Club of Ridgewood.

Although we are a nonprofit dedicated to serving those that are food insecure, those in a position of food insecurity may also struggle to obtain household items, personal care items, or even school supplies for children. Earlier in September, Nutrifuel worked with various food pantries to put together backpacks full of notebooks, binders, pencils, markers, erasers, and other items for children returning to school. At food pantries, wipes, hand sanitizer, laundry detergent, and paper towels are all items that are typically low in stock and rarely replenished. Therefore, we also like to check in with our local food pantries to keep them stocked on their goods in great demand.

Whether it’s distributing fresh fruits and vegetables to food pantries, donating diapers and formula, or putting together school supplies, backpacks, and household items, we are working to alleviate the effects of food insecurity for those in this difficult position.
